Bunchberry

A close-up of the white flower of an immature bunchberry (Cornus canadensis) plant.

Captured in Neys Provincial Park in northern Ontario, Canada; with a Canon Rebel XSi using an 18-55mm lens.

Also known as Canadian Dwarf Cornel, Canadian Bunchberry, or Crackerberry, this plant is a herbaceous member of the Cornaceae (dogwood) family. It grows about 20-30 cm tall and bears tiny flowers a few millimeters across that form an inflorescence at the center of four white, petal-like bracts 3-4 cm diameter.
